A Journey of Self-Transformation: From Random Thoughts to Measurable Progress
Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, often leading us to profound realizations in the most ordinary moments. For me, that moment came on a routine bike ride through the streets of Bengaluru. As I cruised along, lost in thought, a single question broke through the noise: What am I doing for myself? That simple inquiry sparked a transformative journey — one that led me to shed not just physical weight, but also the mental barriers holding me back. This is the story of my 100-day journey from 84.9 kg to 73 kg, a tale of determination, unexpected guidance, and the realization that sometimes, the greatest allies in our success are people we’ve never even met. Through small daily efforts, changes in routine, and unwavering support, I discovered that true transformation is possible when we commit to becoming the best version of ourselves.
Scene 1: The Realization
It was a warm July 2024 afternoon, the 7th to be exact, as I navigated my bike through the busy streets of Bengaluru to reach HSR Layout. Lost in thought, my mind wandered to a question that seemed to come out of nowhere, “What am I doing for myself?” Life had been a whirlwind of responsibilities — earning, investing, and maintaining what I had achieved so far. But for all that I was building, I realized that most of it was for others — my successors. What about me? What was I doing to nurture myself? That simple question would become the seed for a journey I couldn’t have imagined at the time — a journey of self-improvement, both mentally and physically.
Scene 2: The Decision
That evening, as the sun set, I knew it was time for a change. I turned to YouTube and articles, seeking answers to a simple but profound question: “How can I become a better version of myself?” I stumbled across videos that promised transformation — 30-minute workouts, daily routines to improve both body and mind. There was one in particular, a complete body workout by Brian Syuki from Focus Fitness, which caught my attention. The tools required? Dumbbells — the only fitness gear I had at home. I decided to follow this blindly, but little did I know, this was the beginning of a journey that would change my life.
Scene 3: The Struggle Begins
That night, I stood on the weighing machine — 84.9 kg stared back at me. The number felt heavy, not just in physical weight but in the challenge it represented. I jumped into Brian’s 30-minute workout, full of enthusiasm, but reality hit hard. I couldn’t even complete 10 minutes. My muscles screamed in protest, and my body felt like it was fighting against me. “It’s okay,” I thought. This is how every great journey begins — with small, shaky steps. I started making dietary changes too, cutting out sugar, replacing my breakfast with banana and coconut, and committing to having dinner before 7 PM without fail. The first night, I slept like a baby, my body exhausted but my mind at peace.
Scene 4: Wisdom comes from the most unexpected places
The next day, I pushed myself harder — 15 minutes this time. Progress, but still, I could feel my body resisting. That morning, my daughter Vruthika(10 Yrs) noticed my struggle and suggested three yoga asanas. She didn’t know much, but her advice would soon become a vital part of my routine. Here’s where I learned an important lesson — sometimes, Wisdom comes from the most unexpected places. Set aside your ego and be willing to learn from anyone. My daughter, with her limited school yoga experience, became my guide. She taught me three asanas:
1. Vrkshasana (Tree Pose)
2. Urdhva Mukha Svana Asana (Upward Facing Dog)
3. Titli Asana (Butterfly Pose)
Together, they would prepare my body for the tougher workouts ahead.
Scene 5: Breakthroughs and Setbacks
Day after day, I combined these asanas with my dumbbell workout. By Day 4, something magical happened — I saw results on the scale. The weight began to drop, and with each small victory, my motivation grew. I realized something profound: when you’re on the right path, the universe — or in my case, technology — will lend a helping hand. I found a spreadsheet online that tracked my weight, goals, and progress. It was a simple tool, but it added fuel to my fire.
By the end of my first week, I had lost 2 kg — down to 82.9 kg. The second week brought even more success, with a total weight loss of 3.4 kg by the 20th of July. I felt unstoppable, thinking I could reach my target weight of 75 kg in just a few more weeks. But that’s when the real challenge began.
Scene 6: The Struggle Intensifies
Weeks three and four were slower — only 1.1 kg lost each week. I hit my first major plateau after a month of hard work, reaching 79.3 kg by August 8th. My pace had slowed, and the weight wasn’t falling off like before. The frustration set in. I had come so far, but suddenly the road felt steeper. This was the first time I truly understood that real change requires more than just effort — it demands persistence and adaptation.
In the fifth week, my weight loss dropped to just 400 grams. Something had to change. That’s when I introduced intermittent fasting, and the results were immediate — I lost another kilogram in the sixth week. It became clear that in any journey, you must adjust your strategy to meet your goals. Whether in weight loss or life, change is the only constant.
Scene 7: Overcoming the Final Hurdles
Weeks seven through ten tested my resolve even further. The weight came off slower, and at times, I even gained a little back. But I refused to give up. I added an hour of walking to my routine, determined to find new paths when the old ones became too difficult. Finally, on the 77th day — twelve weeks into my journey — I stood on the scale and saw the number I had been waiting for: 75 kg. I stared at the scale, blinking in disbelief, my heart pounding with a mix of relief and triumph. The feeling was indescribable. Every struggle, every setback had been worth it.
Scene 8: The Victory
Today(Oct 16th 2024), on the 100th day of my journey, I weigh 73 kg — down from 84.9 kg, with a BMI of 24. Nearly 12 kg gone, but the weight I had shed was more than physical. I had gained so much more — self-belief, discipline, and a renewed sense of purpose. I now see the parallels between this journey and life itself. The ups and downs, the setbacks and victories, all leading to one truth: Never give up until you reach your goal.
This transformation wasn’t something I achieved alone. Along the way, I had support from 4 key persons. My wife, Daughter and unexpected sources — two individuals I’ve never met in person, yet they became key pillars in my success.
My wife, always supportive, ensured that dinner was ready before 7 PM every night, and that I had the time and space to practice. My daughter, with her yoga asanas, gave me the strength to begin. Brian Syuki, the creator of the workout video (30 Minute FLAT BELLY FAST Dumbbell Workout for Beginners) I followed. With his Focus Fitness videos, he became my virtual trainer. Without Brian’s video, I might not have found a structured way to start, and it made me realize something profound: sometimes, people we’ve never met can still change our lives in significant ways.
The other unsung hero in my journey is the anonymous creator of the weight-tracking spreadsheet. It was a simple yet powerful tool that mapped out my progress, from daily losses to long-term goals. Every time I updated it, I saw my dream weight getting closer, one small step at a time. This stranger, somewhere out there, unknowingly gave me a gift — a way to visualize my success and keep my motivation alive. It’s amazing how technology and the kindness of unknown people can impact your life in such meaningful ways.
This is the Beauty of life: sometimes, it’s the people we least expect, or those we don’t even know, who become our partners in success. They enter our lives in small ways, but their impact is immense. Whether it’s a YouTube fitness coach or a stranger who shared a spreadsheet, their influence is undeniable. I’m deeply grateful for their contributions, which made my victory possible.
Conclusion: The Journey Within
This journey wasn’t just about losing weight. It was about finding myself. Through the challenges, I discovered that the only thing standing between me and my goals was my own willpower. Life, like weight loss, is a journey full of setbacks and triumphs. The key is to keep moving forward, to change your route but never your destination. And in the end, you’ll find that the journey is just as important as the destination itself. Along the way, you’ll meet partners — some known, some unknown — who will help you succeed, and that, in itself, is the true beauty of life.
“If I can do it, so can you. The journey is tough, but the rewards — both physical and mental — are life-changing. Start today, and become your best self”
